About Me!

Born in Shiprock, New Mexico, I have lived in several states in America but prefers my Rocky Mountain home in Colorado. A resident of the Southwest for the last twenty-four years of my life, I am a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and learned my knowledge of parenthood one day, and one child at a time. With hosts of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren I see a rich American heritage being passed on through my descendants, right before my very eyes.

One of my children, Candace, often describes me as such: "Mom knows the answers . . . if she doesn't know them she knows where to find them. She has a vast library, a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for progress. She treasures this country, it's Constitution and the lives of the millions of men and women who have died to maintain the freedom of American citizens. She is constantly reading, combing newspapers, magazines and interviewing individuals for material for her columns. She is one of the most insightful social commentary columnists of our day."

A columnist for several years, I developed a huge following nationwide as people passed columns from family to friend and over the Internet. My columns have been described as "straight-shooting, sometimes funny, sometimes informative, sometimes horrifying as she relays without fear, the state of American society today."

All these comprise a woman who loves to garden, read, teach the gospel and spend time with family and friends.

You "daughter" is too kind. I respect greatly what she is doing as well. She is one to follow and learn from:-)

However - I think I have already found out, just where she gets all of her amazing talent! I have read some of your posts online as well!

Spotlight on "Forged in the Refiner's Fire" by Candace E. Salima

Why do bad things happen? Is there a purpose when we face a bad trial? As mortals, we can be compared to ore, such as gold and silver. Ore that is unrefined is generally impure and undesirable. Only ore that is crushed -- and then refined by fire -- becomes beautiful, pure, precious and valuable. This book was written to help you see the results of the Ultimate Refiner, the Lord, in your own life.

Within these pages, people from all walks of life share their stories of triumph over tragedy. More importantly, they reveal how they were strengthened as they passed through the Refiner's fire. They became more precious, and so can you. Look for the experiences of vocalist Merrill Osmond, LDS writers Shirley Bahlmann, Elizabeth Cheever, Willard Boyd Gardner, Tristi Pinkston, and Candace E. Salima, renowned columnist Muriel Sluyter and several people across the nation who are ranchers, housewives, writers in the national market and more.

Candace E. Salima partnered with Elizabeth Cheever to co-author this book. They feel very privileged to have been the ones to bring this story to the world.
