FiddleSticks is a Family Band playing Celtic Music and Old Mormon Hymns

FiddleSticks is a family musical group that performs folk songs and traditional tunes from the Celtic lands, from England, and from America. The band is made up of three sisters, Rebecca, Kathryn, and Elizabeth Davis, and their father Mark. Featured instruments include fiddle, flutes, cello, bodhran (Irish drum), guitar and vocals, with occasional hammer dulcimer, fretless bass, drum kit, and various other percussion.

The band has released nine albums, starting with the “Sampler,” a studio live project released in 1998 when the girls were barely in their teens, to the most recent 2009 release called “Big Fiddle,” produced and arranged by Liz and involving a wide range of guest artists. Other albums include two best-selling collections of old-time Mormon hymns called “Farewell to Nauvoo” and “Return to Nauvoo;” two Pearl Award winning albums of contemporary Celtic/Newgrass tunes called “Cat and the Fiddle” and “Ampersand;” a Celtic Christmas album called “Cold Fusion” that is featured as an iTunes Essential selection; an upbeat Celtic Rock/Jazz album called “Time and Again;” and a collection of traditional Celtic tunes called “Playing Favorites.”

The band gets together at least once a year for a “reunion concert” -- which often is combined with a CD release party. Between concerts, fans can find FiddleSticks’ recordings in local Utah bookstores, by mail order, on CDBaby.com, iTunes and other digital sources, and on FiddleSticks’ web page: www.fiddle-sticks.com.

Spotlight on "Forged in the Refiner's Fire" by Candace E. Salima

Why do bad things happen? Is there a purpose when we face a bad trial? As mortals, we can be compared to ore, such as gold and silver. Ore that is unrefined is generally impure and undesirable. Only ore that is crushed -- and then refined by fire -- becomes beautiful, pure, precious and valuable. This book was written to help you see the results of the Ultimate Refiner, the Lord, in your own life.

Within these pages, people from all walks of life share their stories of triumph over tragedy. More importantly, they reveal how they were strengthened as they passed through the Refiner's fire. They became more precious, and so can you. Look for the experiences of vocalist Merrill Osmond, LDS writers Shirley Bahlmann, Elizabeth Cheever, Willard Boyd Gardner, Tristi Pinkston, and Candace E. Salima, renowned columnist Muriel Sluyter and several people across the nation who are ranchers, housewives, writers in the national market and more.

Candace E. Salima partnered with Elizabeth Cheever to co-author this book. They feel very privileged to have been the ones to bring this story to the world.
