New Neighbors

When someone new moved into a neighborhood, the "welcoming committee" always showed up with dinner to help the new family settle in. Well, we don't quite show up with dinner, but join us anyway and celebrate the Neighborhood.

Cheri Crane: yourLDSNeighborhood Travel & Traditions Expert

One of the pastimes LDS author Cheri Crane enjoys the most is to travel and to take tons of pictures. Through the years she has embarked on several interesting journeys with her family. Now that she and her husband are empty-nesters, that trend will likely increase. She enjoys sharing these adventures compliments of her blog: http://crane-ium.blogspot.com. Another one of her favorite pastimes includes highlighting fun and solemn traditions that are celebrated in her family, and around the world. Her unique sense of humor shines through on occasion, as does her tendency to weave in gospel oriented analogies whenever possible. Some of you may remember Cheri from her books: the "Kate" series which included: "Kate's Turn," "Kate's Return," "Forever Kate," "Following Kate," "Sabrina & Kate," & "The Girls Next Door," and other books like "The Fine Print," "The Long Road Home," & "Moment of Truth."

Cheri Crane is the moderator for this discussion group. So offer tips, suggestions, travel ideas, neighborly suggestions and please, actively participate in the discussions. We value your input!

Hi Kathi. =) Sorry I'm late in replying. Things have been crazy here. I became a new grandmother about a month ago. Way fun!!! =)

Bear Lake is a beautiful area, even during winter. And I like the Carpenters, too. Even if my family makes fun of me. =D

Cheri:
I have visited Bear Lake many times and love the area; however, I've never visited during the winter. I'm so happy you were able to help your poor little tree survive the storm last weekend. The storm was beautiful here in Salt Lake. I love the first snowfall of the year and always celebrate by playing the Carpenters Christmas CD. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I've noticed he taps his foot. I look forward to reading more from you.

Spotlight on "Forged in the Refiner's Fire" by Candace E. Salima

Why do bad things happen? Is there a purpose when we face a bad trial? As mortals, we can be compared to ore, such as gold and silver. Ore that is unrefined is generally impure and undesirable. Only ore that is crushed -- and then refined by fire -- becomes beautiful, pure, precious and valuable. This book was written to help you see the results of the Ultimate Refiner, the Lord, in your own life.

Within these pages, people from all walks of life share their stories of triumph over tragedy. More importantly, they reveal how they were strengthened as they passed through the Refiner's fire. They became more precious, and so can you. Look for the experiences of vocalist Merrill Osmond, LDS writers Shirley Bahlmann, Elizabeth Cheever, Willard Boyd Gardner, Tristi Pinkston, and Candace E. Salima, renowned columnist Muriel Sluyter and several people across the nation who are ranchers, housewives, writers in the national market and more.

Candace E. Salima partnered with Elizabeth Cheever to co-author this book. They feel very privileged to have been the ones to bring this story to the world.
